Buckwheat Date Squares

The recipe

  • Place all the dates ingredients in a pot, and simmer for 5 minutes or until dates are reduced to purée. Let cool.

  • Place oven rack in the middle position. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Line an oven-safe dish with parchment paper.

  • Combine all dry ingredients, moisten with melted butter and mix well.

  • Press half the grain flake mixture into bottom of dish.

  • Add dates, and finish with the rest of grain flake mixture.

  • Bake about 50-60 minutes or until squares are slightly golden.

  • Let cool on a wire rack. Cut into squares, and serve!
